Newton Protocol Mainnet Beta Is Live
The authorization layer for onchain finance is now enforcing real policy onchain.
Today the Magic Newton Foundation is announcing the mainnet beta of Newton Protocol, the authorization layer for the onchain economy. Newton Protocol is live on Base and Ethereum, enforcing rules onchain.
This is a milestone we have been building toward and one we are glad to reach alongside a growing ecosystem of partners.
Why an authorization layer
Capital has moved onchain faster than the controls meant to govern it. The capital is here. The layer that enforces the rules around it has not been.
A blockchain is very good at one thing: settlement, moving value from one party to another. But settlement is only part of a transaction. In traditional finance, a lot happens before anything clears, including checks on compliance, risk, identity, and authorization. Crypto pushed that work offchain, where it is inconsistent and hard to verify. An institution’s risk limits end up living in a document rather than in enforceable code, and rules that are only a promise tend to break exactly when they matter most.
Newton adds the step that has been missing. It sits between the moment a transaction is initiated and the moment it settles, checks the transaction against a policy, and returns a pass or fail before value moves. An institution defines what is permitted, in advance. Newton enforces it, and writes a signed, timestamped record onchain that anyone can verify. Other tools report what happened. Newton enforces what is allowed before it happens, verifiably, and without revealing the underlying data.
Importantly, none of this asks you to trust Newton. Policy evaluation runs across a network of operators secured by EigenLayer, and the correctness of each evaluation can be proven with zero-knowledge proofs. Every decision is independently verifiable on the Newton Explorer.
"Mainnet beta is the moment Newton starts enforcing real rules on real capital," said Mohammad Akhavannik, Managing Director of the Magic Newton Foundation. "What I'm most proud of is that we don't reach it alone. An open set of data, risk, compliance, and security partners can now plug into one neutral layer, so the rules that govern onchain capital are enforced and verifiable from day one. Crypto already has the openness. This is how it earns the trust to carry the next wave of capital."
A milestone we reach together
Newton Protocol is infrastructure, and infrastructure is only as strong as the ecosystem built around it. A policy is only as good as the data behind it, and the protocol is only as secure as the teams who help secure it.
Mainnet beta builds on an ecosystem already in place. The protocol is secured using operators on EigenLayer and Succinct's zero-knowledge technology, and works with data oracle partners including Persona, Human Passport, Neynar, Massive, Veriff, and Etherscan.
With mainnet beta, we are growing the data oracle ecosystem. We are glad to welcome Chainalysis for risk monitoring and sanctions screening, vaults.fyi for live vault health and ratings, RedStone for price feeds, Credora for risk ratings and collateral intelligence, and Webacy for wallet reputation and risk scoring. Each is a building block that can compose into policy. The ecosystem is open by design: any data, risk, or compliance provider can contribute, and builders choose which ones to implement.
And Newton is live where capital already works: with implementations to use with Euler, and on Base and Ethereum.
Building on the protocol, Magic Labs, the core developer of Newton Protocol, is releasing some of the first products built on top of Newton. These give vault curators and allocators a way to make a vault's rules enforceable onchain without building authorization logic from scratch, composed from the same integrations above.

Newton Protocol's mainnet beta is live today. Request a demo to see Newton enforce policy on a live transaction. Explore records on the Newton Explorer, or start building in the developer docs.
Crypto has spent years proving that capital can move onchain. Newton is how the rules move with it.
